Alene Dorothea Cole, age 105, of Hanford, CA, entered heaven’s gates Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013. She died peacefully, of natural causes.
She was born Dec. 24, 1907, in Howard Lake, the daughter of Herman and Minnie Prigge.
Alene and her husband, Merrill Cole moved to El Centro, CA and later, in 1940, to Hanford.
An active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hanford, Alene had served as a deaconess.
She retired after many years of service for the JC Penny Co.
Alene and her husband enjoyed many years of fellowship with the Good Companions. Alene was also active in the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary.
She was well known for her quilting and cooking skills.
Alene is survived by a son, Darrell (Phyllis) of Villa Park, CA; two grandchildren, Kristin (Matthew), and David (Diana); and six great-grandchildren, Sammy, Gabriella, Nathan, Christiana, Haley, and William; as well as two generations of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill; brother Walter Prigge; and sisters Lauretta Anderson and Evelyn May.
Funeral services took place Friday, Oct. 18 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Hanford, with visitation from 10:30 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Interment followed at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona, CA.
