Martina “Mardy” Fistman, age 93, of Cottage Grove and formerly of the Winsted area, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at her home following a brief illness.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Saturday, Feb. 16 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 920 Holley Ave., St. Paul Park, with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Private burial will be at our Lady of Good Council Catholic Cemetery in Wilmont.
Arrangements are being handled by Kok Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.
Mardy was born April 10, 1919, to Henry and Josephine Vaske on the original Vaske homestead, south of Wilmont.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence Fistman Jan 3, 1940 (also of the Wilmont area). God blessed their marriage with eight children.
Mardy was a hard-working woman throughout her life. She always put others before herself. The love of her life was for her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and she enjoyed a great game of bingo.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence in 1990; a daughter, Norma; her parents, Henry and Josephine; two brothers; and five sisters.
Mardy is survived by her children; Shirley (Jim) Fasching of Mayer, David (JoAnne) Fistman of Littlerock, CA, Sharon (Roger) Groth of Afton, Pat (Marlyce) Fistman of Backus, Diane (DeLloyd) Burau of Milaca, Jerry (Carol) Fistman of Howard Lake, and Mary (Brian) Lofgren of Delano; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
