Vernon G. Fitz, age 66, of Norwood Young America passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at his home.
Vernon George Fitz was born Aug. 23, 1946 in Sebeka, the son of Alois and Rosella (Borka) Fitz.
He received the sacraments of baptism, first communion, and confirmation at the St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Blue Grass.
Vernon was united in marriage to Jane Marie Bitzer Jan. 16, 1965 in Watertown, SD.
While in high school, Vernon’s family moved to Waconia. Vernon was a graduate of Waconia High School. He was a member of the Ascension Catholic Church, where he was a past CCD teacher.
Vernon worked in maintenance and was employed by Thermo King for 38 years, where he had served on the Union Arbitrary Committee.
He liked meeting for breakfast with fellow retirees. He enjoyed painting/restoring automobiles and working in his garage. Vernon loved to fix things and do yard work. He liked to watch squirrels, birds, and rabbits.
He’ll be remembered for “Vern’s words of wisdom.” Vernon recorded the weather daily.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Alois and Rosella Fitz.
Vernon is survived by his loving family: wife Jane Fitz of Norwood Young America; sons and daughters-in-law Jeffrey and Lorrie Fitz of McDonough, GA, Michael and Ann Fitz of Bloomington; grandchildren Megan, Logan, and Jordan Fitz, Domonique, Daeshawn, Davien, and Olivia Fitz; brother and sister-in-law LeRoy and Ann Fitz of Norwood Young America; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bob and Fern Bitzer of Hinesville, GA, John Bitzer of Cologne, Florence Hiller of Delano; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorial Mass of Christian burial took place Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 11 a.m. at The Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America, with Fr. Gregory Abbott as celebrant. Gathering of family and friends took place Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Urn bearers were Jeffrey Fitz and Michael Fitz.
Arrangements were by Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia.
