Richard L. Foley Obituary – 2/26/2013


Richard Leo Foley, age 54, of Dassel, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2013, at his home.

He was born Aug. 20, 1958, in Great Falls, MT, the son of Richard and Beth (Redinger) Foley. Richard attended school in the Montana area.

He was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.

Richard was united in marriage to Doris Bunn Aug. 14, 1982, in Hopkins. They raised their family of nine children in Buffalo, before moving to Dassel in 2004.

For the last 27 years, Richard enjoyed working as a mason with Mike Nelson Masonry.

He adored his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, who will miss him greatly.

Richard was diagnosed with lung cancer in October of 2012, and was lovingly cared for by his dear wife and family. He patiently endured his health trials, and was uplifted by the prayers, love, and encouragement from fellow Christians. Now, he has gained that victory we are all striving for.

Left to long after him are his wife, Doris; six sons, Trent (Katrina), Keith (Tristan), Joshua (Deanna), Nolan, Gordon and Randall; two daughters, Bethany (Nathan) Koistinen, and Chandra (Riley) Sundberg; 10 grandchildren; six siblings, Fay Heidegger, Doreen (Richard) North, Cindy Vega, Tim (Vicki), Jerry, and Fred (Laura); a brother-in-law, Joe Sheadel; and a host of Christian friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Scott; his parents; a sister, Myra; his mother- and father-in-law, Anita and Evan Bunn; and two brothers-in-law, Ed Heidegger and Amund Peterson.

The funeral service took place Saturday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church in rural Dassel. Interment at Swan Lake Cemetery will take place at a later date.

Visitation was Friday evening, March 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church, and continued Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Arrangements were handled by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
