Myrle Curtis Forsen, age 90, of Dassel, died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Dassel Lakeside Health Care, after a long illness.
A memorial service will take place Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. at Lake Jennie Covenant Church, Dassel. Interment will take place at a later date.
Myrle was born May 27, 1923, in McLaughlin. SD, to William Forsen, a native of Sweden, and Christine (Hultman) Forsen of Minnesota. The family later moved to Los Angeles, CA, where Myrle graduated from Hollywood High School.
During World War II, Curtis, as he wished to be known, joined the Merchant Marine and served approximately four and one-half years, receiving a third mate rating.
Myrle married June Johnson of Dassel, April 19, 1947, in Los Angeles, CA at the First Covenant Church. They were married 66 years, and blessed with four children.
Curt worked as a contractor in the Los Angeles area. He was a long time member of the Crescenta-Canada Rotary Club.
In 1982, Curtis and June moved back to June’s family home in Dassel, and Curtis continued his contracting business on a part-time basis. With his son, Peter, he owned and operated the Dassel Car Wash for some years.
A skilled artist, Curt’s great pleasure was painting ocean scenes, for which he always received blue ribbons. He was pleased that, in his last years, he was able to contribute a panel on the fence at the Dassel Historical Society site.
In 2011, Curt was able to spend a year living with his son, Richard, a missionary, in the country of Romania.
Curt was an active member of Lake Jennie Covenant Church in his last years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Frances Forsen.
Curtis is survived by his wife, June; his children, Richard (Susan) Forsen, John Forsen, Peter (Susan) Forsen, and Barbara (Kevin) Cameron; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
