John F. Franzen, age 74, of Belle Plaine, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at his home.
He was born March 29, 1939, in Maple Plain, the son of Adam and Ida (Fleischman) Franzen.
John grew up on Lake Sarah, helping his father farm, and helping rent boats and sell bait. He bought a farm in Sibley County in 1969.
John was a veteran.
He and Linda were united in marriage Oct. 11, 1969, at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Loretto. The couple built their life on their farm in Green Isle, and raised four children. Farming was passed down generations to John, who passed on his passion for farming his son because of this, John’s spirit will always remain at the farm and in his land.
John enjoyed visiting with friends, telling jokes, fishing, spearing, birthday celebrations, holidays with family, and weekends at the camper. He loved to plant things, enjoying gardening, planting crops, planting trees, and planting trees in between those trees.
He also enjoyed playing cards, and loved animals, especially his dogs.
John was very faithful and instilled that in his children. He was a person who everyone liked; always an honorable and respectable man.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Franzen; parents Adam and Ida Franzen; father-in-law and mother-in-law Lambert and Helen Bukowski; nephew Todd Ristau; and brother-in-law Joe Faue.
