Viola Marie Frederick, age 100, of Annandale, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the Annandale Care Center.
She was born Jan. 27, 1913, in Middle River to Walter and Anna (Nicka) Matsen.
Viola was united in marriage to Clifford Widlund, and he preceded her in death.
She was later united in marriage to Lawrence Frederick, and he also preceded her in death.
Viola lived most of her life in Annandale, living a short time in Minneapolis and Walker.
She owned and operated Mom’s Café in South Haven in the 1950s, and went on to work at the Twin Cities Arsenal in New Brighton.
Viola was a former member of the Walker Legion Auxiliary.
She enjoyed fishing, traveling, wintering in Arizona, and summering in Annandale.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Caroline Rimer of Robbinsdale; five grandchildren, Richard Rimer, Randy Rimer, Ronda Held, Robbie Rimer, and Rona Nesser; and eight great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by a brother, Kenneth (Barb) Lantto of Edina; and a sister, Betty Jane (Clinton) Lambert of Buffalo.
In addition to her husbands, Lawrence, and Clifford, Viola was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Anna; three infant sons; 10 brothers; and five sisters.
Funeral services took place Friday, May 10 at 1 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale with Pastor Dave Nelson officiating. Interment followed at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery.
Friends called Thursday, May 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale, and also one hour prior to the service Friday, at the church.
Pallbearers were Richard J. III, Christopher, Justin and Tanya Rimer, Nick Listul, Joey Nesser, Ryan Held, and Tara Nesser.
Arrangements were entrusted to Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.
