Wilferd W. Fruetel, age 84, formerly of Lester Prairie, passed away peacefully Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Westwood Care Center in St. Louis Park.
Born and raised in Lester Prairie, Wilferd moved with his family to St. Louis Park in 1958. He retired from Red Owl Bakery, and was a devoted St. Louis Park Bus Co. driver.
He loved baseball and before his illness, you could usually find Wilferd at a Little League game almost every night.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis D. (Pieper); son-in-law Lee Gray; his parents; and five siblings.
Wilferd is survived by his children: Debra (Jay) Schmitz, Patricia (Dennis) Currier, Jane Gray, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Stanek, and Gregory (Joy) Fruetel; grandchildren Matthew (Alyssa) Schmitz, Nicole Currier, Kimberly Currier (fiancé Joe), Tracy (Brandon) Campion, Katherine Brandtjen (Stuart Kardian), Noah and Leah Stanek, and Taylor and Logan Fruetel; sisters and brothers, Mildred Feltmann, Marcella Fruetel, Leonard “Mickel” Fruetel, and Ralph Fruetel; as well as many relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Sunday, Aug. 11 at 2 p.m. at Spirit of Christ Community Lutheran Church in St. Louis Park, with visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church.
