Lloyd Dennis Glessing, age 92, of Cokato, formerly of Howard Lake, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013.
He was born Jan. 7, 1921, on the family farm in Victor Township, rural Howard Lake, the son of Jacob and Ethel (Pettit) Glessing.
A lifelong member of St. James Lutheran Church, Lloyd was baptized Feb. 27, 1921, by the Rev. A.L. Oetjen; and confirmed in his faith May 3, 1936, by the Rev. C.G. Seltz.
Lloyd was married to Gladys Cochran Nov. 6, 1946. Their marriage was blessed with three children.
Living on the family farm, Lloyd took over its operation, living there until 2010, when he moved into Brookridge at Cokato.
As a dairyman, he was an active member of AMPI (American Milk Producers Inc.). Lloyd especially loved the field work and working with his four Farmall tractors a 300, a 350, an M, and a Super.
Lloyd’s favorite pastimes included watching boxing, drinking Orange Crush, playing cards, and listening to country music. Family was always important to him and he was proud to have his son, Dennis, take over the family farm.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Ethel Glessing; a stillborn son in 1951; sister and brother-in-law Mike and Ruth Kramer; brothers Dale, Gerald, Laurel (Jack) Glessing; parents-in-law Martin (Roy) and Amelia Cochran; ex-wife Gladys Glessing Stolka; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Gibson Cochran, Harold and Gloria Asplin, Gordon and Donna Cochran, Lois Berg, Erwin and Delores Sexton, Gaylen Cochran, and Lorraine Cochran Peterson.
He is survived by his children, Gail (Doug) Sherrer of Fairbanks, AK, Denise (Bernard) Dyreson of Delano, Dennis and Vicky Glessing of Howard Lake, and Dan Nass of Minneapolis; grandchildren Tracy (Ben) Friedman of Martinez, CA, Crystal (Chris) Bailey of Portland, OR, Troy Sherrer of Fairbanks, AK, Jared Glessing, and Jessica Glessing (friend Jake Krueger), both of Howard Lake; and great-grandchildren Brenden Silva of Vacaville, CA, and Powers Bailey of Portland, OR.
Lloyd is further survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law, Eldon (Joyce) Glessing, Marvin (Delores) Glessing, all of Howard Lake, and Fern Glessing of Cokato; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ronald and Arlene Cochran of Glenwood, Rob and Karen Duraine of McGregor, Darlene Cochran of White Bear Lake, and William Haavisto of Cokato; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
A celebration of his life took place Tuesday, Oct. 5 at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, with the Rev. Michael Nirva officiating. Nancy Butterfass served as the organist. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Pallbearers were Marty Boss, David Cochran, Mike Cochran, Rick Cochran, Kent Glessing, and Jason Mapes.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
