Louis (Louie) William Groskreutz, age 92, of Delano, died Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo.
He was born March 18, 1921, in Forest Prairie Township, MN, to Herman and Mary (Rosenow) Groskreutz. Louis was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Litchfield.
He married Margaret Ann Euerle Sept. 11, 1945, at St. Matthew’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Forest City.
Louie served in the US Army from September 1942 to January 1946, with tours of duty in Germany and France.
After his service, Louie worked at the Mills Brothers farm by Cedar Mills, Delano Granite Works, B.F. Nelson Roofing, and General Mills.
In 1954, Louie and Margaret bought a farm north of Delano, living there until 1976, when their son, Jim, took over the farm. Louie still occasionally helped out until 1993.
In 2007, he was privileged to see the World War II Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.
Louie is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret; son James (Margaret/Peggy) of Delano; daughter Mary (Richard) Drysdale of Helena, MT; five grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and three brothers.
After his family and his farm, Louie’s first love was dancing. He and Margaret danced three or four times a week until his neuropathy became too severe. Now, Louie is dancing in heaven.
Memorial services took place Saturday, Sept. 7 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Delano. Inurnment was in the church cemetery.
Family and friends gathered Friday, Sept. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano; and also Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church. prior to the service.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
