Rodney C. Gutzmann, 78

Rodney Charles Gutzmann, age 78, of Winsted, died Thursday, April 18, 2013, at Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.

He was born Sept. 1, 1934, in Winsted, the son of Charles and Esther Seeman Gutzmann.

Rodney was baptized Sept. 21, 1934, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. He was instructed in the Lutheran catechism, and confirmed in the Christian faith May 21, 1948, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

Rodney graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1952.

He was joined in holy marriage with Carole Ann Rathkamp Dec. 13, 1952, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. God blessed their marriage with five children.

Rodney took over the family’s homestead in Winsted Township after the death of his father and brother. He engaged in dairy farming there for many years.

Rodney enjoyed family gatherings at the cabin on Lake Ann. His hobby was model railroading, which he enjoyed very much.

He was a faithful, lifelong member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, where he held many church offices through the years.

He is survived by his wife, Carole Ann; children Connie Dehn of Norwood/Young America, David (fiancée Cheryl Klemp) Gutzmann of St. Louis Park, Chuck (Leanne) Gutzmann, Jamie Gutzmann (special friend Rhonda), and Amy (Matt) Spoden, all of Winsted; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Irma Smith; and other relatives and friends.

Rodney was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Esther Gutzmann; and two brothers, Arden and Wayne Gutzmann.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, April 23 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, with the Rev. Mark Loder officiating, and Molly Loder as the organist. Interment followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday, April 22 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, and continued Tuesday morning, April 23 at the church, one hour prior to services.

Honorary casket bearers were Vern Christenson, Ken Lehner, Jim Baird, Stan Ehrke, Jim Brown, and Harlan Wegscheid.

Casket bearers were Josh Dehn, Aaron Dehn, Michael Dehn, Gage Gutzmann, Tim Storms, and Ryan G. Fiecke.
