Luella Esther Hecksel, age 102, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
On an Easter Day, April 16, 1911, a daughter was born to Charles and Magdalene Noerenberg Narr Luedke in Hollywood Township, Carver County.
Luella was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township May 7, 1911 by Reverend Theo Rolf. She attended Hollywood Parochial School, and was confirmed May 17, 1925 by Reverend W.L. Ernst.
Luella was united in marriage June 21, 1932, to Wallace Hecksel by Reverend Theo Rolf at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood near New Germany. Their marriage sermon Bible text was The Lord’s Prayer.
God blessed their marriage with two sons and four daughters.
After farming in Hollywood Township for seven years, they moved to the Hecksel homestead farm east of Winsted. They transferred their membership to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted in 1944.
They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 1982.
Luella was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, and also belonged to its Ladies Guild.
Luella enjoyed traveling, her flowers, gardening, cooking, baking, and visiting with family and friends. She especially enjoyed visiting with the people who delivered Meals on Wheels. She was able to live in her house until the age of 101, before going to St. Mary’s Care Center.
Luella is survived by her loving family: Diane (Glen) Jorgensen, Marilyn (Neil) Dungan, Marlow (Darlene) Hecksel, Harlan (Pauline) Hecksel, and Lois (Kevin) Campbell; son-in-law: Jon (Norma) Schwichtenberg; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Doris Luedke of Winsted, and Gladys Luedke of Park Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Luella was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Magdalene Luedke; husband Wallace, on July 18, 1983; daughter Opal Schwichtenberg on April 9, 1991; sister Cordella Lemmermann Feb. 12, 1969; four brothers, Clarence, Edwin, Rueben, and Fred, all in 1999; a step-brother, Walter Narr in 1952; and two infant brothers, Raymond and Herbert.
Funeral services for Luella Hecksel took place Sunday, July 21 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. Pastor Mark Loder officiated. Interment followed at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Hollywood Township.
Special music was provided by Bruce Gatz; he sang “Our Father.” Congregational hymns were “Beautiful Savior,” and “Abide with Me.”
Visitation took place Sunday, July 21 from noon until 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Winsted.
Casket bearers were Guy Schwichtenberg, Marc Schwichtenberg, Doug Hecksel, Lonnie Hecksel, Ryan Hecksel, Troy Hecksel, Jason Campbell, and Eric Campbell.
Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters Brenda Vinkemeier, Carla Sipprell, Becky Jorgensen, Wanda Hecksel, Patricia Hirsch, Amy Hecksel, and Sarah Sevigny.
Funeral arrangements were by Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.
