Robert Dennis Helm, age 77, of South Haven, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital.
He was born Sept. 19, 1935, at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis, the son of Charles and Lorraine (Lehman) Helm. Robert was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
He grew up and attended school in the South Minneapolis area.
Robert was united in marriage to Bernice Voight Aug. 23, 1970. The couple made their home in the South Haven area.
Robert was employed by Minnesota Roadways for over 20 years, and retired in 2008, at the age of 72.
He loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed playing pool, and pull tabs. When Robert was younger, he enjoyed bowling, softball, boxing, track, basketball, and gymnastics.
Robert is survived by his wife of 42 years, Bernice Helm of South Haven; children, Robert Helm II of South Haven, Cassie Janisch (Todd Roy) of Annandale, Cyndi (Brian) Gardner of Sartell, Chantel (Joe) Carter of Silver Bay, and Candi Helm (Shawn Huikko) of Annandale; 12 grandchildren, Kilea, Stephanie, Derek, Sabrina, Skylar, Janai, Blayne, Duncan, Emily, Erica, Michael, Mitchell; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Denise (Dee Dee) Marrone; an infant granddaughter, Kylianne Elizabeth Helm; his parents; and brothers Charles (Bud) Helm, Lloyd Helm, and Michael (Mickey) Helm.
A memorial service took place Monday, June 3 at 6 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel with the Rev. Michael Nelson officiating.
There was a time to gather with the family from 4 to 6 p.m., preceding the memorial service, at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
