Leonard G. “Gus” Hensel, age 86, a lifelong resident of Howard Lake, died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at his home, doing what he enjoyed working outdoors with his Oliver tractor.
There will be a memorial service Sunday, March 10 at 2 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date.
Leonard was born Sept. 8, 1926, to Gustav and Eleanor Hensel.
He was a graduate of Howard Lake High School.
Leonard served in the Merchant Marine from 1944 to 1950, serving around the world.
Following service, Leonard farmed, drove for Dahlen Transport, and since 1963, sold farm chemicals. He was known for his “low overhead deal.”
Leonard enjoyed travel, his church, and lively discussion with fellow Howard Lake residents.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; three sons, Lawrence (Toni) of Fairborn, OH, Robert (Vicki) of McDonough, GA, and Alan (Lisa) of Buffalo; four grandchildren; and a sister, Eleanor.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Ethel.
