Paul Arvid Holmquist, age 68, of Cokato, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at Mercy Hospital of Coon Rapids.
He was born April 6, 1945, in Cokato, to Melvin and Fern (Larson) Holmquist. Paul was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato, and remained a life- long member.
Paul graduated from Cokato High School in 1966.
He worked with his father, Melvin, delivering dairy products in and around Cokato.
In 1981, Mel retired, and Paul took a job as a custodian at the Dassel Cokato High School, working there until 2009.
He had lived at the Cokato Apartments for the past 20 years, where he helped with senior dining and other tasks at the apartments.
Paul was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed watching all sports at Cokato High School and Dassel-Cokato High School. He was an enthusiastic Twins and Vikings fan, and attended many games. Harmon Killebrew was his favorite athlete. He also collected programs from all sporting events.
Most of all, Paul enjoyed people; he made friends easily and enjoyed visiting.
Paul had received the Aquatennial Commodore’s Award at the Cokato Corn Carnival.
He is survived by his brothers, David Holmquist of New Jersey, and Mike (Belinda) Holmquist of Cokato; nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and many friends.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Fern; and a niece, Wendy Holmquist.
The funeral service took place Tuesday, May 14 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
Visitation was Monday, May 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato.
