Walter Klaustermeier, 85

Walter Henry Klaustermeier, age 85, of Winsted, formerly of Lester Prairie, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born July 31, 1927, in Bergen Township, McLeod County, the son of William and Bertha (Templin) Klaustermeier. Walter was baptized as an infant Aug. 31, 1927, by Pastor Arthur Spleiss, and was later confirmed in his faith March 29, 1942, by Pastor E. H. Stahlke, both at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Walter received his education at the church through eighth grade. He then returned home to help his parents on the farm.

He was united in marriage to Jean Phyllis Nelson June 15, 1957, by Pastor Gustavson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown. Walter and Jean made their home and farmed outside Lester Prairie. God blessed their marriage with a son, James.

The couple moved into town in 1987, and then moved to Hutchinson in January of 2006. They enjoyed over 49 years of marriage before Jean passed away Sept. 26, 2006.

Walter entered St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted in November of 2008, and lived there until his death.

A hard worker and a life-long farmer, Walter served on the church’s board of education and was active in many 4-H activities. Other enjoyments in life included going to fairs, and watching sports on TV, especially Monday Night Football.

Walter is survived by his son, James Klaustermeier of Lester Prairie; a brother, Carl Klaustermeier and his wife, Carol, of Lester Prairie; a sister-in-law, Ruth Schwartz of Waconia; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

In addition to his wife, Jean, Walter was preceded in death by his parents, William and Bertha Klaustermeier; a sister, Lorna (and Ortwin) Schmidt; and a brother-in-law, Gilbert Schwartz.

Funeral services celebrating Walter’s life took place Wednesday, March 13 at 2 p.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, followed by interment in the church cemetery.Pastor Eric Nelson officiated at the services. The organist was Marsha Christenson. Congregational hymns were “My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less,” “Beautiful Savior,” “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” and “Abide With Me.”

Casket bearers were Stacy Meyer, Paul Krueger, David Klaustermeier, David Anderson, Duane Schwartz, and Don Schwartz.
