Celia E. Kunze Obituary – 7/6/2013


Celia Elaine Kunze, age 91, of Delano, died Saturday, July 6, 2013, at her home.

She was born Nov. 30, 1921, in Brewster, the daughter of Bernhard and Vauna (Curtis) Kuehl. Celia was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth at Grace Lutheran Church in Brewster. She received her education in Brewster.

Celia was united in marriage to William Kunze Sept. 10, 1941, at Brewster Lutheran Church parsonage in Brewster. This marriage was blessed with four children, Donald, Connie, Diana, and Sharon.

Celia and William resided and farmed in the Brewster area, and later moved to Worthington. In 1957, Celia and Bill moved to Windom, and in May of 1995, they moved to Hutchinson. They shared 58 years of marriage until William passed away April 19, 1999. In 2003, Celia moved to Delano.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, homemaker and partner in the farming operation, Celia was employed at the Windom Hospital as a surgical nurse.

She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Celia enjoyed sewing, crafting, and painting. She was a great cook and loved to bake. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Celia is survived by her children, Donald Kunze and his wife Debbie of Andover, Connie Bishop of Golden Valley, Diana Hall and her husband, Robert of Le Sueur, and Sharon Coyne and her husband, William of Edina; grandchildren Christopher Bishop, Meredith Wakefield and her husband, Aaron, Robert Hall Jr. and his wife Sharon, Matthew Hall and his wife, Jodi, Nicole Hall and her fiancé, Dan Fonkert, Robert Pace III and his wife, Crystal, Elizabeth Weimer and her husband, Matt, Anthony Pace, and Hope Mullen; and great-grandchildren Jakob Pace, Joshua Pace, Kirsten Pace, Mariah Mullen, Cam Pace, Olivia Hall, Nick Wakefield, Alexandra Weimer, Kate Wakefield, Bailey Hall, Molly Bishop, Lauren Weimer, John Bishop, Tristan Fonkert, and Flora Coyne.

She is further survived by her sisters, Donna Von Behren of Bloomington, Vauna Gieser of Mesa AZ, Evie Froderman of Worthington, and Harriet Thorson of Sleepy Eye; a brother, Alvin Kueh of Worthington; many nieces, nephew, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, William, Celia was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhard and Vauna Kuehl; sisters Doris Habeck, Margaret (Mickey) Finke, Florence Schaff, Lucille Welton, Bertha Anderson, Fredrika Kuehl, and Caroline Kuehl; and brothers Freidrich Kuehl, Ralph Kuehl, and Henry Kuehl.

A memorial service took place Friday, July 12 at 11 a.m. at Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson, with a gathering of family and friends from 10 to 11 a.m., prior to the service. Interment was in Hersery Cemetery in Brewster.

Arrangements were handled by the Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.
