Edna Ethel Leinonen, age 100, of Cokato, passed away Jan. 1, 2013, at the Cokato Manor.
She was born in Finlayson Oct. 22, 1912, to Charles and Amanda Aleksandra Hellman, and grew up on a farm there.
Edna married Martin Leinonen May 15, 1936, in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in the Minneapolis area, and to this union, three children were born: Maxine, Lonso, and Lance.
They later lived on Lake Washington in Dassel. Martin passed away while living there, in 1989.
Edna lived in Howard Lake for a short time, then the Cokato Apartments, and then Cokato Manor.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, and fishing on the lake.
Edna was a member of Good Shepherd Free Lutheran Church of Cokato.
She is survived by a son, Lonso (Sandy) of Oronoco; grandchildren Jill Johnston of Wenatchee, WA, Scott Johnston of Olympia, WA, and Michelle Eikenberry of Wenatchee, WA; and six great-grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Karl Charles and Amanda Aleksandra Hellman; husband Martin; son Lance; daughter Maxine Johnston; and 11 brothers and sisters.
The funeral service took place Friday, Jan. 4 at 11 a.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato; with visitation with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Interment with immediate family will take place at a later time.
The Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Cokato handled the arrangements.
