Jean I. Marketon, 80

Jean Irene Marketon, age 80, of Howard Lake, died Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at the Good Samaritan Center in Howard Lake.

She was born Oct. 20, 1932, in Ortonville, to Gunnar and Anna (Melcher) Linquist.

Jan was united in marriage to George John Marketon Nov. 9, 1949. Jean and George farmed in Middleville Township, north of Howard Lake for most of their lives. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage.

Jean enjoyed being with her family, grandchildren, friends, and relatives. She looked forward to playing cards, and cooking and baking for family gatherings. She also loved flowers, and feeding and watching the birds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gunnar and Anna Linquist; great-granddaughter Hope Tauer; six siblings, Clifford Linquist, Alvin Linquist, Francis Linquist, Irvin Linquist, Ralph Linquist, and Helen Balgaard; six sisters-in-law; and seven brothers-in-law.

Jean is survived by her husband, George; children LuJean (Larry) Starke of North Mankato, Kenneth (Colleen) Marketon of Howard Lake, Virginia (Kenneth) Wandersee of Buffalo, and Robert (Annette) Marketon of Howard Lake; 14 grandchildren: David Starke, Karen (Nathan) Crawford, Julie (Matthew) Lorentz, Angela (David) Tauer, Kari Marketon, Timothy Marketon, Shawn (Elisabeth) Kadlec, Jeremy Kadlec, Sarah Marketon, and Lindsay Marketon; six step grandchildren: Bethany (Nick) Orton, Daniel (Cindy) Wandersee, and James (Megan) Wandersee; 11 great-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.

She is further survived by a brother, Don (Jean) Linquist; sisters Genevieve Strube and Myrtle (Harlan) Nelson; seven brothers-in-law; and eight sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, March 11, at 11 a.m. at Church of St. Mary in Waverly. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, March 10 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Center and continued Monday from 9:30 to 11 a.m., prior to the Mass.

Arrangements were handled by Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
