Vivian (Larrabee) Melinsky, age 90, of Howard Lake, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2013, at St. Cloud Hospital.
She was born in Minneapolis, and moved with her parents several times, eventually settling in Howard Lake.
Vivian received her teaching degree from St. Cloud State College. She continued educational training by studying special education at the University of Minnesota.
Later, she and a colleague set the groundwork for establishing the system for teaching special education in the state of Minnesota.
Vivian taught school for over 40 years in the Braham, Cokato, and Howard Lake/Waverly school systems.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grant Melinsky; her parents, Clyde and Emma Larrabee; and a brother, Burton.
Vivian is survived by her daughter, Merry Dee McFarlin of Fairfax, VA; her son, Larry Melinsky and his wife, Linda of South Haven; three grandchildren, Tim McFarlin of Fairfax, VA, Tamara Chauncey of Elizabeth City, NC, and Shawn McFarlin of Ft. Bragg, NC, and eight great-grandchildren.
