Rev. Edwin John Narr, 82

The Rev. Edwin John Narr, 82, longtime pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, Fraser, MI, was called to God’s heavenly kingdom early Friday morning, Dec. 13, 2013, in his home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Rev. Narr was born Jan. 15, 1931, on the family farm in New Germany, a son of the late Edwin W. and Frances (Luedke) Narr.

A graduate of Watertown High School, Rev. Narr attended the University of Minnesota, received his undergraduate degree from Concordia St. Paul, and graduated in 1957 from Concordia Theological Seminary.

He was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Ellen Karkan June 1, 1957.

Following graduation, Rev. Narr served his vicarage at Bethany Lutheran in Parma, OH. He first pastured two churches in South Dakota, before moving to Michigan to serve the church in Freemont. He became the pastor at St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser in 1964, retiring in 1996.

In his retirement, Pastor Narr returned to Minnesota and completely remodelled the farm house he grew up in. He served as vacancy pastor at his home church of St. Mark Lutheran in New Germany, and St. Paul’s Lutheran in Watertown for about a year; in addition to helped as needed in other area congregations.

Pastor Narr enjoyed family camping, cross-country skiing, golf, fishing, traveling, and playing cards, especially Faux and Euchre with family and friends. He also was an avid reader and sports fan, who enjoyed his motorcycle.

Pastor Narr is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen; his loving children, Julie (Robert) Steele, Timothy (Christine) Narr, Terrence (Jacqueline) Narr, Heidi (Doug) Schwark, and Jonathan (Suzanne) Narr; his loving grandchildren, Rachel (Patrick), Nathan, Sarah, Thomas, Erica, Zackary, Jessica, Jacob, Jaquelyn, Julia, Katie, Benjamin and Adam; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn.

He was preceded in death by brother, Roland.

The funeral service was Tuesday, Dec. 17 at St. John Lutheran Church of Fraser at 1 p.m. Interment was in Glen Eden Cemetery Macomb Wednesday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m.

Visitation was Monday, Dec. 16 from 2 to 9 p.m. at the Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home in Fraser, and continued Tuesday at the church for one hour prior to the funeral services.
