Charles L. Nelson, 71

Charles L. “Charlie” Nelson, age 71, of Montrose, passed away at his residence Friday, Dec. 6, 2013.

He was born Aug. 24, 1942, in Montrose, the son of Charles W. and Nellie J. Rasmussen Nelson.

Charlie was baptized and confirmed at the United Methodist Church in Montrose in October 1942, and confirmed in the Christian faith Jan. 30, 1955.

He was a lifetime, faithful member of his church.

Charles was joined in holy marriage with Connie Isakson Nov. 6, 1987, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. They enjoyed 26 years of married life together.

Charlie was formerly employed for 27 years as a deputy for the Wright County Sheriff’s Department. He retired in May of 1998 as a detective.

Charlie was passionate about everything he chose to become involved in – his friends; the Wright County Sheriff’s Department; Boy Scouts; his church; Montrose Days; the town of Montrose; Wright County Fair Board. and Goldberg Bail Bonds. He had great hope for the City to fulfill the potential he felt it has.

Most especially, Charlie cared for his family. He enjoyed each and every moment spent with everyone; whether it was for one minute or a day.

His once-a-year fishing attempt, Memorial Day weekend, was three and one-half days spent talking, laughing, fishing, canoeing, playing and, most of all, relaxing and enjoying time spent together, as well as building a cozy fire and holding hands.

Charlie had a great belief in our youth, and thought each and every one had potential. That’s where he put his focus. Often, Charlie would be thanked for various things he had done that had changed a person’s life.

The voice of calm and reason, Charlie thought through his words before speaking. He lived and breathed by a Scouts’ oath . . . ”Trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean and reverent.”

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Connie; children: Peter (Carol) Nelson of Pine Island, Eric (Mee Lee) Nelson of Minneapolis, Scott (Jamie) Isakson of Watertown, Melissa (Derrick) Abraham of St. Joseph, and William (Kristie) Isakson of Litchfield; 14 grandchildren: Anthony and Kelly Weigel; Annabelle, Charles, Leland and Francis Nelson; Ramsey, Avery and Gabrielle Nelson; Matthew, Drew and Noah Isakson; Devon Abraham; and Alexis and Dylan Isakson; a soon-to-be great-grandbaby Weigel; a sister, Carol (Darrell) Jacobson of Wyoming, MN; a brother, Edward (Ruby) Nelson of Richfield; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Lowell E. Nelson; his parents; and by a sister, Alberta (Roger) Engel.

Funeral services took place Thursday, Dec. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Montrose, followed by interment at Kreidler Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 11 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, and continued Thursday, one hour prior to the service at the church.

Casket bearers were Jim Carlen, Peter Nelson, John Quirk, Doug Block, Kevin Triplett, and Rodger Hessedal.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family. Online condolences may be made to www.thepetersonchapel.com.
