Robert J. Pepin, age 87, of Hamel, died Sunday, Nov. 17, 2013.
A lifelong resident of the Hamel and Loretto area, Robert enlisted in the Navy in 1944, and served in the South Pacific aboard the USS AKA-99 Rolette.
He retired from Adolfson & Peterson Construction and was a member of the Local 49 Union.
Robert and his family operated Pepin’s Boat Rental on Lake Peter in Medina. Robert and Rita also managed a Minneapolis Star Tribune rural paper route for many years.
Throughout his life, Robert enjoyed raising cattle and chickens and farming his land.
He was a member of the American Legion and VFW Hamel, and belonged to St. Peter & Paul Parish in Loretto.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Rita (nee Schommer); father Arthur; mother Katherine; and a brother, Gervase.
He is survived by sisters Betty Mingo, Doris Hagberg-Kemna, Mary Lou Pearson (Larry), and Ruth Ann Burgess (Carl); sister-in-law Elane Pepin-Kielb; children Kathy, Mary Pepin-Bakeberg (Greg), Bob (Carole), Henry (Kathy), Dave (Kris), Patricia Washatka (Jerry), and Ron; grandchildren Mike, Matt and Shannon Pepin, Katie Heesen (Eric), Jenna and Lee (Mary) Pepin, Sierra Pepin, and Ellen, Billy, and Nick Washatka; great-grandchildren, Evan Heesen, Francis and James Pepin, Easton Jolicoeur, and Lillian Washatka; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services took place Thursday, Nov. 21 at 11 a.m. at Sts. Peter & Paul Church in Loretto, followed by interment in church cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 4 to 7:30 p.m. at the Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel in Plymouth, with a prayer Service at 7 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson’s Association of Minnesota, the Alzheimer’s Association, or to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
