Donald Lee “Butch” Riebe, age 67, of Darwin, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2013, at the Cokato Manor.
He was born July 19, 1946, in Hutchinson, the son of Wilfred and Lillie (Steck) Riebe. Donald was baptized March 28, 1947.
He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1964.
Butch grew up working with his family at the Riebe Sod Company in Darwin, and became the owner in 1976.
He was a charter member of the All Saint’s Lutheran Church in Darwin, where he was an usher for many years. He was also a member of the Eagles Club, the Darwin Rod and Gun Club, the Darwin Drifters Snowmobile Club, and the Better Business Bureau.
In his younger days, Butch enjoyed fishing, ice fishing, and hunting deer, pheasants, and ducks. He enjoyed cats, spending time with children, and visiting with his friends and family.
Butch will be remembered for his easygoing personality and his giving, generous nature.
He is survived by his brothers, Vern (and Judy) Riebe of Dassel, Harvey Riebe, and Steve Riebe, both of Darwin; close and personal friend and business partner, Shelly and her husband, Neal Fjelstad, of Litchfield; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Duane and Dennis.
Funeral services took place Friday, Dec. 27 at 10:30 a.m. at the All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Lake Ripley Cemetery, Litchfield.
