Leorda ‘Lee’ Schilling Obituary – 1/12/2013


Leorda W. “Lee” Schilling, age 89, of Watertown, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

Lee was born April 1, 1923, in Hamburg, the daughter of Fred and Clara (Panning) Glander. She was baptized and confirmed at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg.

Lee attended the Emanuel Lutheran School.

She was united in marriage with Ruben Schilling Nov. 6, 1948, at the St. Peter Lutheran Church of Watertown by the Rev. John Spomer. The couple made their home on the Schilling family farm in Maple Plain.

Lee loved living on the farm and working alongside her husband.

She was a faithful member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where she volunteered whenever needed.

Lee enjoyed flower gardening, feeding and watching birds, and crocheting. She took advantage of every opportunity to babysit her grandchildren and attend their activities.

Lee looked forward to her monthly date with friends for a meal out. She will be remembered for her loving, social personality, and as a friend to all.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ruben Schilling; daughter and son-in-law Karen and Gary Vinkemeier; parents Fred and Clara Glander; step-mother Meta Glander; and father-in-law and mother-in-law William and Hulda Schilling.

Lee is survived by her loving family; daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Doug Ernst of Norwood Young America; son and daughter-in-law Steve and Wendy Schilling of Maple Plain; daughter-in-law Colleen Vinkemeier of Annandale; and grandchildren and their spouses Jeff and Tina Vinkemeier, Amy and Dave Halquist, Heather and Charlie Christopherson, Michael and Jenn Ernst, Megan Schilling, Zach Schilling, and Tianna Schilling.

She is further survived by her great-grandchildren, Courtney Vinkemeier and fiancé David Waller, Carley Vinkemeier, Collin Vinkemeier, Caleb Vinkemeier, Canton Vinkemeier, Cadee Vinkemeier, Morgan Halquist, Olivia Halquist, Montgomery Halquist, Avery Christopherson, Payton Christopherson; a great-granddaughter, Ellerie Waller; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Arleen and James Hoese of Mayer; as well as nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Wednesday, Jan. 16 at 11 a.m. at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Bill Kirmsse officiating. Interment was in St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Serving as casket bearers were Jeff Vinkemeier, Dave Halquist, Charlie Christopherson, Michael Ernst, and Zach Schilling.
