Florence Schroeder Obituary – 1/14/2013


Florence Elizabeth Schroeder, age 91, of Litchfield, formerly of Darwin, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield.

She was born Oct. 30, 1921, in Briggsville, WI, the daughter of Leon and Vera (McMillan) Gray. Florence was baptized and confirmed in her faith as a youth March 28, 1937, at Trinity Congregational Church in Endeavor, WI. She received her elementary education in Endeavor, and was a graduate of the Endeavor High School class of 1939.

Florence was united in marriage to Warren Allen in March of 1941, in Madison, WI. This marriage was blessed with three children, Rita, James, and Merrill. Florence and Warren resided in Madison.

Florence was united in marriage to Harold Schroeder Nov. 15, 1967, in Portage, WI. Florence and Harold resided in Portage until they moved to Darwin in 1979. They shared 35 years of marriage, until Harold passed away in May of 2003.

In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Florence held employment for Oscar Meyer and at the packing plant in Madison, WI. She also was employed at the Dassel Lakeside Home in Dassel as the laundry supervisor.

Florence was a member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin.

She enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, and quilting, and made many quilts for her church.

Florence cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren.

When she needed assistance with her daily care, Florence became a resident of the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield, Feb. 2, 2006.

Florence is survived by her children, Rita Renner and her husband, Jesse of Hutchinson, James Allen and his friend, Susie Tyler, and Merrill Allen, all of Goodland, FL; grandchildren Darcie Pringnitz and her husband, Lyle, Alisa Allen, and Jessie Allen; and great-grandchildren Warren Pringnitz, Emma Pringnitz, and Mark Pringnitz.

She is further survived by her sisters, Leona Chaney of Redding, CA, Marion Durheim, Doris Powell, both of Portage, WI, Ruth Fandrich of Lodi, WI, and June Parrott of Endeavor, WI; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband Harold, Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Vera Gray; brother Albert Gray; sister Irene Colburn; and brothers-in-law Ken Fandrich, Bill Chaney, Arnold Durheim, and Francis Parrott.

A memorial service took place Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Lutheran Church in Darwin, followed by interment in the church cemetery.

There was a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
