Evelyn Ella (Mrs. Leslie) Schrupp, age 88, of Norwood Young America, died Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Glencoe Regional Health Services.
She was born Nov. 9, 1924, in New Auburn Township, the daughter of Ernst and Lydia (Grewe) Gruenhagen. Evelyn was baptized as an infant Nov. 23, 1924, by the Rev. Dysterheft in her home in New Auburn Township, and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth April 10, 1938, by the same pastor at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County.
Evelyn received her education in Glencoe, graduating with the Glencoe High School class of 1943.
She was united in marriage to Leslie Schrupp Feb. 24, 1946, by Pastor Schaller at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Helen Township, McLeod County. The couple made their home on the Schrupp farm in Young America Township, and were blessed with eight children, Marjorie, Linda, Jane, Cindy, Robert, Lori, William and Timothy.
Evelyn and Leslie shared over 56 years of marriage, until Leslie passed away April 7, 2002.
In addition to being a loving homemaker, mother, and wife, Evelyn helped on the farm. She also worked at Green Giant, Deli Express, and Hillcrest Cafe.
Evelyn was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, watching Vikings football games and high school basketball tournaments, and taking care of her dog, cats, and chickens. She had a great sense of humor and was a hard worker.
Evelyn also had a strong faith in God. She would always make it a priority to ask her children, even as adults, if they had gone to church, wanting to be sure they stayed close to God.
Evelyn especially cherished the time spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Marjorie “Margie” Stockman of Plato, Linda Rehmann and her husband, Gary, of Lester Prairie, Jane Pieschke and her husband, Duane, of Norwood Young America, Cindy Noennig and her husband, Mark, of Sabin, Lori Manthey and her husband, Rod, and Bill Schrupp, all of Norwood Young America; and a daughter-in-law, Linda Schrupp of Waterford, MI.
Evelyn is further survived by her grandchildren, Todd Stockman and his wife, Sabrina, of Canby, Tammy Knutson and her husband, Hans, of Hutchinson, Trisha Olson and her husband, Curt, of St. Louis Park, Tony Stockman of Plato, Jeff Rehmann of Lester Prairie, Dan Rehmann and his wife, Leah, of Chaska, David Rehmann and his wife, Kit, of Maple Grove, Jennifer Otto and her husband, Jeff, of Arlington, Jill Kriens and her husband, James, of Mesa, AZ, Joshua Pieschke of Norwood Young America, Carrie Nemzek and her husband, Andy, of New Hope, Katie Noennig and her fiancé, Brian Gustafson of North Fargo, ND, Caleb Noennig, Joshua Noennig, both of Sabin, Kimberly Schrupp of Plymouth, MI, Matthew Schrupp of Grand Rapids, MI, Brandon Schrupp, Kevin Schrupp, both of Waterford, MI, Miranda Manthey, Mitchell Manthey, Tyler Manthey, and Rachel Crosby, all of Norwood Young America; 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces, one nephew, other relatives, and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Ernst and Lydia Gruenhagen; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Lydia Schrupp; sons Robert Schrupp, and Timothy Schrupp; son-in-law Richard Stockman; and a brother, Arnold Gruenhagen.
Funeral services took place Saturday, March 16 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, followed by interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. David Winter officiated, and Rita Luecke was the organist. Soloist Lawrence Biermann sang “In The Garden.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” “How Great Thou Art,” and “Jesus Lead Thou On.”
Evelyn’s grandsons were her casket bearers.
