Steven F. Schug Obituary – 9/27/2013


Steven Frederick Schug, age 44, of Eagan, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.

He was born Oct. 16, 1968, in Waconia, the son of Delbert “Butch” and Joyce (Luke) Schug. Steven was baptized as an infant Nov. 3, 1968, received his first holy communion in June 1977, and was confirmed in his faith in May 1982, all at Church of the Ascension in Norwood Young America.

Steven received his education in Norwood Young America and was a graduate of the Central High School Class of 1987. He furthered his education at Brown Institute in Minneapolis, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in Communication and radio broadcasting.

Steve began his career as a radio broadcaster in Litchfield, advancing as both a broadcaster and program director at Q102 in Willmar and KCLD in St. Cloud. While in St. Cloud, he and his morning show co-anchor were awarded the prestige of number-one morning show in the listening area.

Steve also won several broadcasting awards, including the Minnesota Broadcasters Award for Comedy for writing, producing and performing a parody entitled, “Livin in Minnesota.” He also enjoyed on-air weekend time at KS95 and Mix 104 in the Twin Cities. Steve later worked many years for Clear Channel Communications in broadcasting with K102, and programming with Total Traffic.

He also incorporated his love of all music and his gift of sharing it with others into his own business, providing DJ services for countless weddings and other celebrations throughout the Twin Cities area and suburbs, operating first under the name “All Schug Up” (performing his DJ show at Norwood Young America’s Stiftungsfest in 1990 and 1991) and later “DJ Steve Hunter.”

Steve’s quick wit, talent, amazing sense of humor, and kind soul will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his siblings: Richard Schug and his wife, Sherri, of Norwood Young America, Donald Schug of Chisago City, Ronald Schug and his wife, Tammy, of Norwood Young America, Daniel Schug and his wife, Lisa, of Hamburg, Nancy Crandall and her husband, Donald, of Hampton, Mary Boecker and her husband, Douglas, of Rochester, Diane Damuth and her husband, Todd, of Montrose, Randy Schug of Green Isle, and Janet Schug of Norwood Young America; nephews and nieces Jennifer Schug, Matthew Schug, Alyssa Schug, Cassie (and Corey) Storms, Chet Schug, Brianna Schug, Mariah Schug, Leah Harms (and Tim Murphy), Bethany Boecker, Noah Boecker, Nicole Kroells, and Faith Schug; and great niece and great nephew, Cidney and Easton Storms.

Steve is further survived by uncles and aunts Dorleen Schneewind, Delores Mueffels, both of Waconia, Alan Schug and his wife, Patsy, of Watertown, Elaine Feltmann and her husband, Roger, of Glencoe, and Lois Hendricks and her husband, James, of Watertown; cousins; other relatives; and many friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Joyce Schug; grandparents Clarence and Leona Luke, and Wilfred and Virginia Schug Sr.; brother, David Schug; and uncles and aunts, Wilfred Schug, Jr., Duane “Jim” Schug, Leroy Schneewind, Gerald Mueffels, Mary Louise Schug, and Lola and Orlin Redepenning.

There was a gathering of family and friends Friday, Oct. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Paul-McBride Chapel – Norwood Young America, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
