Hilton P. Schwalbe Obituary – 12/30/2013


Hilton Paul Schwalbe, age 88, of Buffalo, passed away Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids.

He was born Feb. 13, 1925, in Laketown Township, Carver County, to Paul and Louise (Hasse) Schwalbe. Hilton was baptized Feb. 3, 1929, and confirmed April 5, 1942, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Watertown.

He graduated from Watertown High School.

Hilton served in the United States Navy from 1944-1946.

He married Lyla Kuenzel Jan. 29, 1948, at Evangelical Reformed Church in Lester Prairie.

Hilton was a very astute businessman. He enjoyed traveling, dancing, puzzles, playing cards, and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Louise Schwalbe; son, Guy Schwalbe; two sisters, Loretta Jopp and Anita Zastow; brothers-in-law Vernon Jopp, Alden Jopp, Wilbur Zastow, and Roy Ketcher; and sister-in-law Lorraine Schwalbe.

Hilton is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lyla Schwalbe of Otsego; a son, Owen Schwalbe of St. Michael; daughters Gail (Dennis) Trittabaugh, Faye (Carl) Rothenberger, all of Delano, and Donna (Jeff) Krueger of Otsego; grandchildren Roger (Michelle) Wolter, Lori (Joe Hoglund) Wolter, Jennifer Trittabaugh, Michael (Andrea) Trittabaugh, Justin Krueger, and Ryan Krueger; great-grandchildren Samantha Trittabaugh, Taylor Hoglund, Anthony Trittabaugh and Lance Hoglund; a brother, Harold Schwalbe of Waconia; and sisters Irene Jopp of Mayer, and Verna Ketcher of Rockford, IL.

The funeral service took place Saturday, Jan 4 at 1 p.m. at the Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment was at Watertown Cemetery in Watertown.

The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo served the family.
