Fern L. Servin Obituary – 6/10/2013


Fern LaVonne Servin, age 84, of Hutchinson, died Monday, June 10, 2013, at Cedar Crest Estates.

She was born Aug. 2, 1928, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Anton and Alvera (Est) Peterson. Fern was baptized at the Vineyard United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. She received her elementary education in Hutchinson, and attended Hutchinson High School.

Fern was united in marriage to Floyd Servin April 30, 1948, in Hutchinson. This marriage was blessed with three children, Bruce, Terie and Steve.

Fern and Floyd resided in Hutchinson. They shared 42 years of marriage until Floyd passed away May 31, 1990.

Fern was employed by the 3M Company in Hutchinson, retiring after 15 years.

She was a member of the Hutchinson VFW Post 906 Auxiliary.

Fern enjoyed knitting, baking, cooking, and playing bingo. In her younger years, Fern enjoyed bowling. She especially cherished the time she spent with her family, grandchildren, and friends.

Fern became a resident of Cedar Crest Estates in Hutchinson in August 2010.

She is survived by her daughter, Terie Smith of Sauk Centre; grandchildren Stephanie, Brandon, Kiah, Ellie, Katie, and Cody; great-grandchildren Camryn, Jasper, and Gus; sisters, Bernice Miller of Cokato, Mavis Welch-Schillinger of Mesa, AZ, Verna-Dean Navratil of Silver Lake, Janet Bergerson and her husband, Don of Plymouth, and Judy Haekenkamp and her husband, Hubert of Winsted; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her husband, Floyd, Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Alvera Peterson; sons Bruce Servin, and Steve Servin; a brother, Marvin Peterson; sisters Betty Welch and her husband, Harold, and Yvonne Servin (in infancy); and brothers-in-law Wilbert Miller, Don Welch, Cubby Schillinger, and Jim Navratil.

A memorial service took place Monday, June 17 at 1 p.m. at Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson.

Dobratz-Hantge Chapel in Hutchinson handled the arrangements.
