Melvin A. Steinborn Obituary – 4/29/2013


Melvin A. Steinborn, age 74, of Waconia, passed away Monday April 29, 2013, at his home.

He was born April 30, 1938, in Biscay, the son of Alvin and Alma (Scharpe) Steinborn. Melvin was baptized as a child and confirmed in the faith April 15, 1951.

He was united in marriage to Rosella H. Haas Feb. 14, 1961, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Belle Plaine.

Melvin was a loving husband, dad, and grandpa.

He worked at various places of employment during his lifetime including Coast to Coast in Belle Plaine, Vic and Elsie’s Marina and Restaurant, Vic and Mel’s Marine, Nordic Track, Milltronics, and Car-Co.

Melvin enjoyed woodworking, repairing outboard motors, puzzles, gardening, fishing, and bird watching. He cherished his time sitting on the patio listening to old tyme music. Melvin had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia, where he had served by being head usher, as well as by delivering church sermon tapes to members at Evergreen apartments and the Lighthouse.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Alma Steinborn; stepfather Harold Grack; father-in-law and mother-in-law Victor and Elsie Haas; a brother, Darwin Steinborn; and a brother-in-law Gary Haas.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rosie; children and spouses Douglas and Annette Steinborn of New Germany, Kevin and Jane Steinborn of Arlington, Vickie and Rick Salden of Waconia, Stephen and Julie Steinborn of Watertown, Julie and Joel Klaustermeier of Young America, Connie Baumann and special friend John Blair of Young America, and Melanie Steinborn and special friend Jon Sharratt of Minneapolis; grandchildren Tiffany Steinborn and fiancé Jared Freitag, Matt Steinborn, Liz Steinborn and fiancé Brandon Gourley, Jeff Steinborn, Mike Steinborn, Ben Steinborn, Nathan and Amanda Salden, Miranda Salden, Sarah Steinborn, Timothy Klaustermeier, Andrew Klaustermeier, Samuel Klaustermeier, Isaiah LeBlanc, and Mia LeBlanc; and a great-granddaughter, Callie Freitag.

Melvin is further survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Marlys and Robert Dahlberg of Princeton; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Lorraine and Jim Raduenz of Shakopee, Darlene Miller of Kasson, Myrna Eichhof of Arizona, Pam Welsh of Wisconsin, and Linda Steinborn of Texas; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Thursday, May 2 at 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia with the Rev. Phil Wagner officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.

There was visitation Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Melvin’s grandsons were his casket bearers: Matt Steinborn, Jeff Steinborn, Mike Steinborn, Ben Steinborn, Nathan Salden, Timothy Klaustermeier, Andrew Klaustermeier, Samuel Klaustermeier, and Isaiah LeBlanc.
