Jean I. Steinhagen Obituary – 6/25/2013


Jean I. Steinhagen, age 78, of Waconia, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Victoria Care Center in Victoria.

She was born April 5, 1935, in Cologne, the daughter of John and Lena (Leif) Buesgens.

Jean was united in marriage to George J. Steinhagen Jan. 16, 1954, at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Cologne by Father Albert Heer.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Jean treasured time spent with her family and friends, and she was a gracious hostess. She enjoyed sewing, working in her garden, baking, games, cards, dancing, walks in nature, and camping, and loved animals, especially pets.

Jean often traveled with her husband, George, seeing most of the states.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Steinhagen; father and mother, John and Lena Buesgens; sons-in-law Benjamin Hofer Jr., and Wilbert Wensley; sisters and brothers-in-law Marie and James Cauley, Julia and Ralph Zubay, and Ann and Raymond Hilk; brothers and sisters-in-law Frank and Eleanor Buesgens, and Dr. Ralph and Mickey Buesgens; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Steinhagen; brother-in-law Jack Hill; and a nephew, Jay Cauley.

Jean is survived by her loving family; daughter and son-in-law Renee and Harold Justinen of Kelowna, BC; sons and daughters-in-law David and Kelley Steinhagen of Hopkins, and Paul and Kathleen Steinhagen of Waconia; grandchildren Nancy Hofer and special friend Dylan Gothard, Blake and Sunghwa Hofer, Dustin Steinhagen, and Clint Steinhagen; and great-grandchildren Emily and Benjamin Hofer.

She is further survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Elaine Buesgens; sisters and brother-in-law Joan and Dick Joos of Hopkins, and Grace Sexton of Faribault; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Elaine and Allen Hudinsky of St. Bonifacius, Toni Hill of New Hope, and Rosemary Storms of Norwood Young America; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service took place Friday, June 28 at 3 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia, with the Rev. Steve Anderson officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment was at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
