Stephen L. Stifter Obituary – 5/16/2013


Stephen L. Stifter, age 62, of Winsted, passed away at his home Thursday, May 16, 2013.

He was born July 15, 1950, in Farmington, to Casimir and Mary (Keefe) Stifter.

He graduated from Holy Trinity Catholic School in Winsted.

Stephen was united in marriage to Ellen Aune July 18, 1970, at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Mound. Following their marriage, the couple lived in Winsted.

Stephen worked in carpentry as a contracting superintendent for Lester Buildings & Greiner Construction.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing dice, and spending time with his grandchildren and his family. Stephen built the home that he and Ellen shared, and he enjoyed working in their yard.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen of Winsted; sons Travis (Dana) Stifter of Brooklyn Park, and Aaron (Tina) Stifter of Winsted; daughter Meganne (Shaun) Knoll of Lester Prairie; five grandchildren, Xander, Dylan, Allison, Miranda, and Casey; and brothers and sisters, Jim (Cathy) Stifter, Cathy (Doug) Telecky, all of Winsted, Patti (Kevin) Vergin of Montrose, Mary Jane (fiancé Gary Nelson) Reilein of Hutchinson, Ann Marie (special friend, Jeff Kohler) Anderson of Watertown, Paul (Mary) Stifter of Silver Lake, and Matt (fiancée Sandy Fiecke) Stifter of Howard Lake.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, Casey and Mary Stifter.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, May 21 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Visitation was Monday, May 20 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at the church.
