Wallace Strandquist, 97

Wallace A. Strandquist, age 97, of Oster (rural Waverly), went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ Tuesday, April 23, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown.

He was born Feb. 18, 1916, in Oster (Woodland Township), the son of David and Esther Strandquist.

Wallace graduated from Minnehaha Academy in Minneapolis in 1934, and completed one year of business school.

He was united in marriage to Audrey Sutherland Nov. 30, 1941, in Edina. They were married for 57 years and farmed in the Oster community.

Wallace was a faithful member of Oster Covenant Church, and had served there as trustee and treasurer.

He is survived by his loving family, daughter and son-in-law Lois and Glenn Fredeen of Orono; granddaughters Pam (Jon) Bloom of Minneapolis, and Julie (Rick) Clerc of Windom; and great-grandchildren Levi, Eliana, Peter, Moriah and Micah Bloom, Ethan, Colin, and Emily Clerc.

Wallace is further survived by a sister, Ruth Deidrick of Waverly; sister-in-law Joyce Erickson of Plymouth, brother-in-law Harry Johnson of Watertown; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, in 1998; his parents, David and Esther Strandquist; brother and sister-in-law Willard and Novia Strandquist; sister-in-law Louella Johnson; brothers-in-law Calvin Deidrick, and Douglas Erickson; and father-in-law and mother-in-law Arthur and Hannah Sutherland.

Funeral services took place Saturday, April 27 at 2 p.m. at Oster Covenant Church, rural Waverly, with Pastor Jon Bloom officiating. Judy Plucker was the organist, and the vocalist was Jon Bloom. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Visitation was Friday, April 26 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, and continued Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the services.

Casket bearers were Larry Strandquist, Bill Strandquist, Jim Deidrick, Steve Strandquist, Kevin Erickson, and Gordon Lund.

Honorary casket bearer was Don Swanson.
