Audrey Ann Tanke, age 86, of Norwood Young America, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born June 27, 1926, in Springfield, the daughter of Albert and Elsie (Kleinschmidt) Stark. Audrey was baptized March 27, 1927, at the United Methodist Church in Springfield; and confirmed at the same church in 1940.
After graduating from the Comfrey High School, Audrey took training to be a stenographer. She had lived in Alaska and Colorado before moving to St. Paul, where she was employed in banking.
Audrey was united in marriage with Hillary Tanke May 28, 1977, at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg by the Rev. Laurence L. Meyer.
As a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, Audrey was active in the Ladies Aid and Bible study groups.
She loved to cook and enjoyed providing meals for helpers on the farm. Audrey was very fond of the animals on the farm and often she would be found taking pictures of them.
She loved the outdoors and while living in Colorado, she spent much of her free time skiing. Audrey enjoyed traveling and had been to Europe and many places in the United States.
She will be remembered for her quiet, peaceful personality, and her many interests.
Audrey was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Elsie Stark; brothers Lyle, Marvin, and Virgil; and a sister-in-law, Florence Mlynar.
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Hillary Tanke of Norwood Young America; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Audrey Tanke of Northome, and Ed Mlynar of Lester Prairie; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
The funeral service took place Monday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg with the Rev. Donald Andrix officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Serving as casket bearers were Brad Mlynar, Bob Mlynar, Andy Mlynar, John Tanke, John Miller, and Luc Silseth.
