Douglas R. Tewes, 63

Douglas R. (Doug) Tewes, age 63, of Mayer, died Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born April 24, 1950, in Litchfield, the son of Roy and Margaret (Schlueter) Tewes. Doug was baptized and confirmed at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.

Doug was united in marriage to Sally A. Krueger Sept. 16, 1977, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Cedar Mills.

A true family man, Doug loved being around his grandkids. He was always there for anyone who needed help, and enjoyed fixing and working on different products. Doug could fix and take apart anything. He enjoyed splitting wood, being an auto mechanic, swap meets, going to tractor pull shows and attending the Pioneer Power Days in LeSueur.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Margaret Tewes; infant daughters; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Ray and Gloria Krueger.

He is survived by his loving family; wife Sally Tewes of Mayer; daughters and sons-in-law Christina and Christopher Finke of Chanhassen, and Laura and Christopher Schaefer of Brookings, SD; son Andrew Tewes of Mayer; grandchildren Gabriel and Gideon Finke, and Baby Finke (due in August); sister and brother-in-law Karen and Don Vettleson of Blaine; brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Dawn Tewes of Poynette, WI; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Becky and Gary Foley of Springfield, MO, Joan Maurer of Shakopee, the Rev. James and Carolyn Krueger of Medford, WI, and Jill and Don Dettman of Hutchinson; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A memorial service took place Wednesday, May 1 at 5 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer with the Rev. Adam Gless officiating. There was a gathering of family and friends Tuesday, April 30 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Interment was at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
