Brenda Kay Trnka, age 59, of Silver Lake, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, at Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson.
She was born April 1, 1954, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Walter and Dallas (Quast) Ehrke. Brenda was baptized as an infant April 18, 1954, by the Rev. Fischer; and was confirmed in her faith as a youth June 2, 1968, by the Rev. Kasten, both at United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie.
Brenda received her education in Lester Prairie, and was a graduate of the Lester Prairie High School class of 1972. She furthered her education at the Hutchinson Technical College, where she received her administrative assistant degree.
Brenda was united in marriage to Russell Trnka Feb. 15, 1975, at the United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie. This marriage was blessed with two daughters, Carrie and Jamie.
Brenda and Russell resided in Lester Prairie for 23 years. They then moved to Hale Township, rural Silver Lake, in 2000. They shared 38 years of marriage.
Brenda was employed at Rosemount Manufacturing, Plato Woodwork, Inc., and recently at Worldwide Dispensers in Lester Prairie.
She was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
Brenda enjoyed camping with her family, tending to her flowers outside, decorating her home, and shopping. She was a loving and caring mother, and a caregiver to her mother.
Brenda enjoyed every chance she had to go trucking with Russell on trips, including to the east coast. She always had a positive attitude and tried to find the humor in every situation.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends.
Brenda was diagnosed with ovarian cancer Sept. 15, 2012. She fought a courageous battle and never complained. When she needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of Harmony River Living Center in Hutchinson, Sept. 6 of this year.
Brenda is survived by her husband, Russell Trnka of Silver Lake; daughters Carrie Wuollett and her husband, Al, of Moorhead, and Jamie Kisner and her husband, Bill, of Kelliher; and grandchildren Grace and Max Wuollett, and Dalton, Madelin ,and Samantha Kisner.
She is further survived by her mother, Dallas Ehrke of Lester Prairie; sister Bonnie Kamps of Escondido, CA; mother-in-law Lorraine Trnka of Silver Lake, sister-in-law Lorelei Line and her husband, Roger, of Silver Lake; brother-in-law Kevin Trnka and his wife, Nancy, of Lakewood, CO; niece Angela Trnka; nephew Blake Trnka; and many other relatives and friends.
Brenda was preceded in death by her father, Walter Ehrke; and father-in-law Willard Trnka.
A memorial service took place Monday, Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. at Christ The King Lutheran Church in Hutchinson, followed by interment in the Lester Prairie City Cemetery. The Rev. Jon Lindekugel officiated at the service, and Bonnie Westmiller was the organist. Special music included “Ships Of Heaven,” and “See You Again.” Congregational hymns were “Amazing Grace,” and “Just As I Am.” Carrie Wuollett and Jamie Kisner were the urn bearers.
