Marilyn A. (Smith) Vogelgesang, age 78, of Richfield, formerly of Waverly, died peacefully with her family around her Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013.
She was born in Maryville Township, and graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1951.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Henry Vogelgesang; children Colette Dolan (Robert), Mark Vogelgesang, Jim Vogelgesang, Dave Vogelgesang, and Sue Glover (Bob); grandchildren Melissa Weigand (Scott), Laura Stotts-Gorans, Karen Stotts (Ted Kraemer), Sarah Kopczyk (Kyle), Brad Glover, Ryan Vogelgesang, Anna Vogelgesang, and Nicole Vogelgesang; a great-grandson, Henry Stotts-Gorans; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip and Georgianna Smith; brother, Milton Smith; a grandson, Philip Glover; and a sister-in-law, Rita Oestreich.
Marilyn was an active member for many years, and past president of, Richfield American Legion Post 435 Auxiliary. She enjoyed spending time as a volunteer at American Legion Auxiliary functions, and at the Veterans Home.
As a member of St. Richard’s Church in Richfield, she enjoyed time with her Guild friends.
Marilyn worked as a longtime bookkeeper for Woodhead Ford and Aqua City Plumbing, which she owned, along with her husband, for 35 years.
She enjoyed spending time with friends and family at “The Family Farm,” in Waverly, and spending summers at Oak Lake Campgrounds with all of her friends in Kerrick, MN.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 11:30 a.m. at Church of St. Richard in Richfield, with interment at Ft. Snelling.
There was visitation Monday, Jan. 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Morris Nilsen Chapel in Richfield, and it continued Tuesday for one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
