Jerome W. Westrup Obituary – 05/10/2013


Jerome W. Westrup, age 94, of Winsted, passed away peacefully Friday, May 10, 2013, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Carver County, the son of Clemens and Rosella Kieser Westrup.

Jerome honorably served his country during World War II, seeing action as combat infantry in North Africa, and later in Central Europe, where he served under Gen George Patton.

He worked in packing and shipping departments at several factories, retiring after extended service at Advance Machine Company in Plymouth.

Jerome was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

He also belonged to the American Legion Post 407 in Winsted, where he was a member for 65 years; and the VFW Post 9232.

Jerome is survived by 10 nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; and many great, great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clemens and Rosella Westrup; a sister, Adeline Snegosky; and by a brother, Medard J. Westrup.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, May 15 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, May 15 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted.

Casket bearers were Bob Snegosky, Don Snegosky, Gary Snegosky, Kent Snegosky, Peter Ackerman, and Ken Westrup.
