Gary Leonard Wilkes, age 64, of Ramsey, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, due to a cardiac arrest.
A longtime champion of education and an advocate for students, Gary was a former director at the Wright Technical Center in Buffalo.
There will be a gathering for family and friends Monday, Oct. 21 from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Holcomb-Henry-Boom-Purcell Funeral Home, 515 Hwy 96 W., at Mackubin, Shoreview. Memorials are preferred.
Following graduation from St. Bernards in 1966, Gary was a career technical administrator for over 30 years, including positions as vocational director at District 916, dean of education at Hennepin Technical College, an adjunct faculty of the University of Minnesota, and retiring from Wright Technical Center June 30, 2007, after 10 years there.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time at the cabin.
He is survived by his wife, Deb Hagen; daughters Patrice (Scott) Wilkes-Gierdal, and Christine Wilkes-Knutson; sisters, Karen (Bob) Nelson and Laureen (Dave) Shypulski; stepfather, Don Ganzer; six grandchildren; former wife, Linda Class-Berg; and other relatives and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Marie (Schwan) Wilkes.
