Robert Young Obituary – 4/2/2013


Robert (Bob) L. Young, age 65, of Waite Park, and formerly of Annandale, died Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at the VA Hospital in St. Cloud.

Bob was born Feb. 28, 1948, in Hutchinson, to Donald and Doris (Lind) Young of Cokato, the youngest of five children.

He graduated from Cokato High School in 1966, and enlisted in the US Army that same year. Bob served in the US Army for three years, serving in Vietnam and spending time in Germany. He returned from Vietnam Sept. 14, 1968.

Bob married his high school sweetheart, Sherry Hatrick, Sept. 21, 1968, in Dassel. For the next year, Bob was stationed on the Fort Meade Army base in Fort George Meade, MD.

In 1969, Bob was discharged from the Army. He and Sherry returned to Minnesota, where they managed Red’s Pizza in Howard Lake. Bob later went to work for the Norseman Restaurant in Cokato.

Bob and Sherry had two children, Jason Robert and Angela Marie.

In 1977, Bob went to work for Minnegasco (now CenterPoint Energy) as a service technician.

He suffered a mild stroke in February 2008, which caused him to retire in October 2008.

In May 2009, Bob and Sherry moved to West Virginia to retire. After three years there, they moved back to Minnesota in April 2012.

Bob and Sherry joined the Annandale United Methodist Church June 19, 2005.

Bob is preceded in death by his father, Donald; and son Jason.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry, of Waite Park; daughter Angie of Eden Prairie; mother Doris of Cokato; sister Maureen (Ralph) Wessman of Cokato; brothers Mark (Rebecca) of Tempe, AZ, Bradley (Beth), and Delmond (Kathy), all of Cokato; many nieces and nephews; and many friends.

A memorial service took place Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Annandale United Methodist Church. Family greeted friends from 5 to 7 p.m., before the service.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
