Marvin M. Anderson, 81

Marvin Milo Anderson, age 81, of Hutchinson, formerly of Dassel, died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2014, at Cedar Crest of Hutchinson.

He was born Sept. 15, 1932, in Dassel, the son of Hugo William and Anna Lucille (Schreiner) Anderson. Marvin grew up in the Dassel area, attended district schooling for his education, and later continued his education and received his GED.

An active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, Marvin had served on several committees. He always had time to lend a helping hand if things needed to get done.

Marvin served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955, helping to rebuild South Korea’s infrastructure.

He was united in marriage to Adeline Beckman Oct. 6, 1956, at the Elim Baptist Church in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Dassel, where Marvin was employed by the Dassel Feed Mill.

Marvin and Adeline moved to Hutchinson, where they lived for two years. They then bought a place north of Dassel, where they made their home until 2011, when they moved back to Hutchinson.

Marvin had been employed by 3M Corporation in Hutchinson for 32 years, retiring from 3M in 1991. After retirement, he owned and operated Marv’s Stump Chipping for 20 years.

He enjoyed spending time in his shop fixing, helping friends and family with tire repairs and other projects. Marvin loved auctions and always had a place on the shelf for another tool. He enjoyed pheasant, duck, and deer hunting, and sometimes enjoyed a little piece and quiet on the lake, fishing.

Marvin and Adeline spent numerous years traveling south in their motorhome to Arizona, Texas, and Florida.

He is survived by his wife, Adeline of Hutchinson; son Todd (Liz) Anderson of Lodi, CA; daughter Trudy (Scott) Suter of Burnsville; four grandchildren, Annalisa Christensen, Emelia Pitlick, Conrad Paulson, and Marcus Anderson; and four great-grandchildren, Parker Christensen, Paige Christensen, Peyton Christensen, and Lilly Paulson.

Marvin is further survived by his siblings, Emily Mackie of San Leandro, CA, Goldie Omdahl of Clackamas, OR, Melvin (Arlette) Anderson of Dassel, Faye (Dewey) Shanholtzer of Bakersfield, CA, Gilbert (Jeanette) Anderson, Howard (Peggy) Anderson, Orville (LuAnn) Anderson. all of Dassel, Percy (Mary) Anderson of Hutchinson, Ralph (Karee) Anderson of Dassel, and Linda (Steve) Madson of Cokato; as well as by several nieces and nephews, and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugo and Lucille Anderson; and two sisters, Irma Peterson and Lois Paradise.

A memorial service took place Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel with the Rev. Keith Carlson officiating. There was a time to gather with family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place in spring at the Lake Arvilla Cemetery in rural Dassel.

The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is handling the memorial arrangements.
