Gregory Paul Anderson, age 57, of Dassel, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his wife, Carol Anderson; sister-in-law Julie Hutchinson; and mother-in-law Dorothy Henson.
Greg was born Oct. 4, 1956, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Harold and Donna Mae Anderson, and the step-son of Maynard “Swede” Walstrom.
Greg grew up and attended school in the Robbinsdale community in north Minneapolis. Following his secondary education, Greg moved to the Seattle area, where he was employed by Flow International and received a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Kennedy-Western University.
Greg met his wife, Carol, while living in Seattle, and they were married March 4, 2000. Three years later, they chose to move to the Dassel area, and built a home on Spring Lake.
Greg continued a business that he began while in Seattle called “New World Industries,” and developed a patent for wireless remotes used in trucks for spreading salt.
He enjoyed working on cars, and engines, and loved drag- racing. Greg actively participated at the races in Grove City and Brainerd. Often, you would see him driving around the area in his uniquely painted ’57 Mercury station wagon.
Greg is survived by his wife, Carol of Dassel; son, PFC Shawn Anderson of Dassel, who is a member of the Army National Guard and served in Afghanistan; two step-sons, Jonathan (Taylor) Beard of Lawton, OK, and Jason Beard of Dassel; two step-grandsons, Isiah, age 14; and Levi, age 3; and a granddaughter, Serenity Marie, due to be born in July.
He is further survived by a brother, Jeff Anderson (Colleen) of Elk River; mother-in-law Dorothy Henson of Dassel; and sister-in-law Julie Hutchinson of Cokato.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents; and his step-father.
A memorial service took place Saturday, March 22 at 2 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel.
