Dennis L. Anderson, 52

Dennis Larry Anderson, age 52, of Kingston, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a long, courageous battle with kidney cancer.

He was born July 4, 1962, in Meeker County, to Larry and Junice Anderson. Dennis grew up on the family farm and attended school in Dassel/Cokato.

He served in the Army National Guard.

Dennis was an owner of the Kingston Crow Bar, and served as the mayor of Kingston.

He was united in marriage to Cheri Draxten June 29, 1991, at St. Mathews Church of Christ in Forest City.

Dennis and his family lived on a hobby farm, where he enjoyed spending time in his screen house, playing cards, gardening, canning, raising animals, spending time with family and friends, and also having many bonfires.

He worked for Litchfield School District 465 for 25 years, before becoming ill.

Dennis also volunteered his time on different projects for the City of Litchfield. He worked with the Sentence to Serve program, and helped the sheriff’s department after work.

Dennis will be especially remembered for being a very giving and helpful person. He always put others before himself, and never asked for anything in return. He will also be remembered for the ready smile he always had.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 23 years, Cheri; son Tyler; daughter Ashley, all of Kingston; his mother, Junice, of Kingston; sister Cory (Curt) Widmark of South Haven; brothers Todd Anderson of Kingston, and Allen (Jody) Anderson of South Haven; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his child, Joey; his father, Larry Anderson; and grandparents Lawrence and June Horwath, and William and Lizzie Anderson.

A memorial service took place Tuesday, Aug. 12 at Cornerstone Church in Litchfield, with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m., followed by a very short “five-minute” service (as requested by Dennis) at 6 p.m., and gathering of family and friends following the service.

Arrangements were handled by the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield; online guestbook at www.johnsonhagglund.com.
