Ardis L. Anderson, 86

Ardis Lorraine Anderson, age 86, of Litchfield, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, at the Ecumen Emmanuel Home of Litchfield.

She was born May 27, 1928, in rural Grove City, to Lawrence Holmberg and Ida (Nelson) Holmberg. Ardis was baptized Sept. 2, 1928, at First Lutheran Church in Grove City; and confirmed April 11, 1943.

Ardis grew up in rural Grove City, attended country school, and graduated from Grove City High School in 1946. She took one year of teacher training in Litchfield, and began her teaching career in a rural school near her home.

A few years later, she began teaching in Litchfield, but was asked to resign after Christmas when it was found she was engaged to be married – that was Litchfield school policy at the time.

Ardis married John Boline in August of 1953. She returned to teaching at rural schools. John and Ardis built a new home in rural Watkins, where they farmed, and Ardis taught near Forest City.

Ardis and John were involved in a serious car accident on their second wedding anniversary, and John spent much time in the hospital, passing away on their sixth wedding anniversary. Ardis then purchased a home in Litchfield. Her parents, Lawrence and Ida moved in with her.

Ardis spent summers working in the courthouse, and also worked part time at the Litchfield Golf Club. While working at the golf club, she met Jerry Anderson, and they were married in June of 1966.

Shortly after marrying Jerry, Ardis was asked to teach sixth grade in the Litchfield school system, where she finished her teaching career many years later.

Ardis continued her education, obtaining her bachelor’s degree from St. Cloud State University, and her master’s degree in 1970. She adopted Kathy, Jerry’s daughter, and shared her with the Holmberg and Boline families.

A member of First Lutheran Church in Litchfield, and then Zion Lutheran, Ardis was also active in the community as a member of the Eagles, and the Eastern Star.

Ardis and Jerry enjoyed camping together. Ardis also enjoyed playing bridge in several bridge clubs, reading books, teaching piano, and hosting events.

Jerry passed away in 1990, after a courageous battle with cancer.

In addition to her husbands, John, and Jerry, Ardis was preceded in death by a daughter, JoAnne Kathryn; parents; aunts; uncles; brother Wesley; brothers and sisters-in-laws Arnold (Doris) Boline, Stanley (Harriet) Boline, Rudolph (Gloria) Boline, LeRoy (Betty) Boline, Gloria Holmberg, and Al Westrup; nieces Lorene Bonine, Marcia Zinter, and Betty Jean Boline; and many other family members and friends.
