Lyle J. Baumann, age 59, of Chaska, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
Lyle was born Nov. 30, 1954, in Watertown, the son of Ruben and Ellen (Laumann) Baumann. He was baptized Dec. 14, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township, New Germany; and confirmed at the same church May 19, 1968.
Lyle participated in the Special Olympics, playing basketball, bowling, and baseball which he extremely enjoyed. He liked spending time with his nephews when they were younger, and helping out on the farm. Lyle also enjoyed traveling, especially his trips to California and the state of Washington.
He volunteered at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chaska on a regular basis.
Lyle enjoyed spending time outdoors, taking in nature and going out on a fishing adventure.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ruben and Ellen Baumann; sister Melva Baumann; brother Ronnie Baumann; and brother-in-law Joe Newstrom.
Lyle is survived by his loving family; sisters and brothers-in-law Marlene and Marlin Hecksel, Linda and Dean Loehrs, all of Watertown, and Jane and Randy From of Chanhassen; brothers and sisters-in-law Richard and Mary Ann Baumann of Winsted, Loren and Katherine Baumann of Mayer, Randy Baumann of Wisconsin, and Shirley Baumann of Lester Prairie; nieces and nephews Alan, Dean and Dan Hecksel, Troy, Todd and Terry Baumann, Rick, Bryan, Nathan and Tim Baumann, Joshua and Jacob Baumann, Jamie Cacka, Mike Loehrs, Chad, Matthew, Brandon and Michael Baumann, Ginelle and Max Newstrom; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service took place Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Chaska, with the Rev. Greg Snow officiating, followed by interment St. John Lutheran Cemetery. There was a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the service.
Honorary casket bearers were Lyle’s nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were handled by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
