Clarence Boogaard, age 85, currently living in Winsted, and formerly of Marshall, died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at the St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born Aug. 20, 1928, in Butler, MN, to George and Johanna (Ryus) Boogaard.
Clarence served in the US Army from 1950 to 1952, during the Korean War.
In 1953, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Scott. To this union were born five children: Danny, Steve, Diane, Laurie, and Cheryl.
Clarence worked for his brother, Albert’s business in Minneota after the service. He then worked at the bus garage in Minneota for a few years.
Following this, he began a 30-year career working for McLaughlin & Schulz, retiring in 1992.
Clarence enjoyed collecting a variety of items including salt and pepper shakers, and lighted Christmas houses.
He was a member of American Legion Post 199 of Minneota.
Clarence is survived by his children, Danny (JoAnn) Boogaard of Lakeland, Steve (Nancy) Boogaard of Marshall, Diane (Duane) Odenbrett, Laurie Boogaard, and Cheryl Boogaard, all of Lester Prairie; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and siblings Con, Helen, Marie, Albert, John, Henry, Wilma, and Bill.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, June 28 at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Marshall.
Visitation was Thursday, June 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Chapel in Winsted, and continued Friday, June 27 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Rehkamp Horvath Funeral Home in Marshall, with a CCW rosary and a parish prayer service at 7 p.m.
Interment, with military honors provided by US American Legion Post 113 of Marshall, took place Saturday, June 28 at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery in Minneota.
