Blanche Breidenbach, 85

Blanche Elaine (Benson) Breidenbach, age 85, of Lester Prairie, passed away Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

She was born Aug. 21, 1928, in Northwood, ND, the daughter of James and Clara (Lura) Benson. Blanche was baptized in the Christian faith as an infant Oct.21, 1928, at St. Jordalen Lutheran Church in Reynolds, ND, and confirmed in her faith as a youth June 13, 1943, at Zion Lutheran Church in Reynolds, ND.

She received her education in Reynolds, ND.

Blanche was united in marriage to Chester Breidenbach Feb. 25, 1947, at Zion Lutheran Church in Reynolds, ND. Blanche and Chester made their home in North Dakota, and then, in January of 1962, they moved to Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with six children, Sherry, Terry, Gail, Joel, Jeff and Gary.

Blanche and Chester shared over 45 years of marriage, before Chester passed away Dec. 5, 1992.

Blanche worked at Tonka Toys in Mound, and also cleaned at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, for over 22 years. She was an active member at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, serving in the Ladies Aid and quilting circle. She was also a TOPS member, and previously held an office position in that organization.

Blanche enjoyed baking, especially cookies; making lefse, watching the Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves, and playing bingo. She loved the time spent with her family and friends, and visiting with all of them.

When Blanche needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted, April of 2013.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Ogren and her husband, Charles, of Ramsey, Terry Breidenbach of Sartell, Gail Anderson and her husband, Robert, of Lester Prairie, Joel Breidenbach and his wife, Lisa, of Glencoe, and Jeff Breidenbach of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Chris Lashinski and her husband, Jeff, of Isanti, Brent Ogren and his wife, Chelsea, of Blaine, Samantha Breidenbach, Brandon Breidenbach, Taylor Breidenbach, Jordan Breidenbach, and Dylan Breidenbach, all of Glencoe; and great-grandchildren Nick, Jeremy, Katelyn, Sydney, and Riley.

She is further survived by a sister, Gladys Sundet of Farmington; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Gladys Trytten, Peggy Landa and her husband, Lloyd, all of Grand Forks, ND; and Larry Cariveau of Crookston; nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends.

In addition to her husband, Chester, Blanche was preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Benson; a son, Gary Breidenbach; and siblings, brothers Don Benson, and Archie Benson; and sisters, Alvina Ellison, Pauline Nefs, Marion Cariveau, and Bernice Benson.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, Jan. 14 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment following at the church cemetery. The Rev. Bethany Nelson officiated at the service, and the organist was Nancy Buckentine. Soloist Tim Smith sang “On Eagle’s Wings.” Congregational hymns were “Blessed Assurance,” “Lamb Of God,” and “Jesus Loves Me.”

Honorary casket bearers were Chris Lashinski, Samantha Breidenbach, Taylor Breidenbach, Jordan Breidenbach, and Dylan Breidenbach.

Casket bearers were Brent Ogren, Brandon Breidenbach, Jeff Lashinski, Paul Sundet, Perry Sundet, and Bob Edblom.
