August Martin Henry Bruska Jr., age 88, of Buffalo, passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, at his home.
He was born Jan. 30, 1926, on the family farm east of Buffalo, to August and Bertha (Zitzlaff). August was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church (Pelican Lake).
As a young adult, August moved to his current farm, which is a mile down the road from the home farm.
He married Verona (Marquette) May 29, 1954, and the couple was blessed with four children.
August farmed all his life, and took on outside jobs with the phone company, fixing wires on the telephone poles. After retiring from farming, he enjoyed working in his garden and orchard, playing cards and dancing at the senior center in the summer, fishing and spearing all winter, and traveling when something of interest came along. Spending time and teaching what he knew was his most generous gifts to all.
August was preceded in death by his parents; all of his siblings; his wife, Verona; son-in-law Claude “Chuck” Westman; and two infant grandchildren.
He will be missed by his children, Leona Westman, Lyle Bruska, Darlene (Jeffrey) Hegstrom, and Nila (Steven) Bragg; grandchildren Valerie Westman, Robert Westman, Timothy (Megan) Hegstrom, Susan Hegstrom, Imogene Bragg (fiancé Michael Thielen), and Seth Bragg; step-grandchildren Nathan (Mary Ann) Bragg and Ethan Bragg; one great-grandchild, three step-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends and other family members.
The funeral service took place Monday, Dec. 1 at 11 a.m., with visitation starting at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment followed at Immanuel Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m., with prayer service 7:30 p.m., at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
The Peterson Chapel served the family.
