Marianne G. Burke, age 92, of Delano, passed away Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014, at the Golden Living Center in Delano.
She was born Aug. 4, 1922, in Norwood, to William and Erna (Schimelpfenig) Fruetel. Marianne was baptized and confirmed at E & R Church in Bongards.
She graduated from Central High School in Norwood in 1940.
Marianne was united in marriage to John C. Burke of Sacred Heart, MN Nov. 18, 1942. John preceded Marianne in death in November of 1988.
Marianne was employed as secretary to the superintendant at Sacred Heart Public Schools for 25 years. She was an active volunteer, giving her time at Sacred Heart Public Schools for four years; as a Sunday school teacher at Ebenezer Lutheran Church for 15 years; and as president of ELCW at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart. She was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross unit in Sacred Heart, served on the REA Advisory Board in Renville, volunteered at Renville Nursing Home for 10 years; and served on Renville Hospice Board for several years. She was a past member of the VFW Auxiliary and church secretary.
In 2006, Marianne brought her volunteering spirit to Delano, where she was active at the Delano Health Care Center as well as in the Delano Senior Center’s “Story Theatre.”
In addition to her husband, John, Marianne was also preceded in death by a brother, William W. Fruetel; and a sister, Muriel Neusens.
She is survived by her children, Eileen (Henry) Huetteman of Delano, and Paul (Marcia) Burke of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Lori (Guy) McKinley and Erin (Peter) Heim; five great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Donna Fruetel; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Monday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Lutheran Church Cemetery in Sacred Heart.
Visitation will take place at the church from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, prior to the services.
Arrangements are by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
